Silky Oaks Lodge

Travellers Tale!

Silky Oaks is an exclusive, stunning resort situated in one of the most beautiful locations in Australia. It is located in the ancient Daintree Rainforest, upon the beautiful crystal-clear waters of Mossman River.

We were lucky enough to spend three days at this incredible place, and I could not recommend it highly enough. Upon arrival, we were greeted at reception with juice and cold towels. The porter showed us around the Main Lodge, which houses the main dining, bar and lounge areas. The Lodge itself is amazing, offering open air dining and perched directly above the cool enticing waters of the Mossman River below. We were shown to our cabin, a Riverhouse. The treehouse-style cabin was very pretty, with all mod-cons, a plush king bed, a huge bathroom overlooking the river, and hammock on the balcony. A bottle of fabulous champagne and fresh fruit greeted us upon arrival.

Just a few metres down from our cabin was the Beach Billabong, a gorgeous swimming hole (part of the river) lined by a sandy shore. Perfect for swimming and sunbathing. And swim we did! At the height of summer, the Mossman River was the perfect place to be with its enticing cool, crystal-clear, pristine water - clean enough to drink. Other deeper swimming holes along the river can be accessed by a track that leads out of the resort.

Breakfast and a 4-course dinner are included in the nightly rate. We were treated to simply superb french cuisine for dinner. The service was efficient and friendly, and the atmosphere was just unbeatable. Where else could one dine in such natural beauty?

I booked myself in for a 90-minute Silky Oaks signature massage at the Healing Waters Spa on site. The Spa Centre itself is simply amazing, with massage tables and treatment rooms looking out over the Daintree rainforest. It is an absolutely tranquil setting for a spa.

We did not actually leave the resort during the whole three days, it was so beautiful. However, if you are inclined to do other things besides swimming, canoeing, eating and relaxing, an activities and tours co-ordinator at reception can organise anything from Barrier Reef Diving trips to nocturnal rainforest walks.

I absolutely LOVED Silky Oaks Lodge. The service and quality of everything was superb. No children under 16 are allowed to stay there, so it would make a perfect honeymoon destination. It is without a doubt the most beautiful location I have ever stayed at.
